ABOUT THE STUDENT WORK @ SOUTH PARADE
Mission Statement: " South Parade Baptist Church aims to win students for Christ, to help them grow in his likeness, to release their individual gifts for his service and to send them out in his name."
About 100 students call SPBC their home, and many of the other church members were once students here. Working alongside the Christian Unions, we regularly host events of interest to students and offer chances to meet and talk on a more personal level too.
Most students attend the evening Celebration at 6.30pm in the Headingley building where contemporary Bible teaching is combined with modern worship. Some go to the "4" congregation which meets at 3pm.
SERVICES
South Parade is made up of four congregations which also meet in the evening for a Celebration together. Cragg Hill, Adel and Headingley meet at 10.30am. There are often people looking to offer hungry students lunch after the service.
'4' meets in Headingley at 3pm on Sunday afternoons and details of their meetings can be found at www.fourleeds.com.
Each of the four congregations has a link person for students - to find out who this is, email
students@spbc.org.uk
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
SPBC offers a warm welcome to international students. We currently have many students worshipping with us every week who have come to Leeds from across the globe.
South Parade has close links with Friends International - a charity that helps Christians to offer friendship and God's love to international students when they come to stay in the UK.
Whether you simply want to relax and make friends, practice your English or learn more about Christianity and the Bible, there's loads going on in Leeds at both universities.
If you are studying at Leeds Met have a look at the Global Cafe website: www.globalcafeleeds.co.uk.
To find out more about events for international students and places to meet up see www.new2uk.org/leeds and www.fourleeds.com.
Please contact Phil Thomas if you have any questions. Phil is an international student worker in Leeds for Friends International and is a member of South Parade's Four congregation. Email:

CHRISTIAN UNIONS
We support and work along side the Christian Unions and encourage all students to go along and see how they can get involved. They are great places to meet new people, often you will make friends that will last your liefetime, and be able to see God work in student's lives as the CU carries out Christ's commission.
The CU's websites are linked in the Useful Links section below.
MENTORING/1-2-1 DISCIPLESHIP
Being able to learn from an older Christian who has been around longer than you have and has walked with Christ for longer is a vital part of the Christian life. If you would like to read the bible, go through a Christian book, ask questions, seek advice or just meet up for a chat with someone within the South Parade church family then please do read on ...
If you ask most people what helped them the most over the years in their walk with God, they will probably NOT say a particular sermon or service or event, but rather the availability of friends to talk to and people to bounce questions off.
1-2-1 discipleship is an opportunity for two people to meet together in a supportive, challenging relationship. Last year nearly 30 students met regularly with an older student or church member to think and pray and read the Bible together. Getting to see how another person has lived the Christian life can be encouraging and provide a different perspective on tricky issues. The model of meeting in pairs or very small groups for fellowship is one that goes back to Bible times.
1-2-1 discipleship is also something that both SPBC and the CUs recommends for those involved in leading a cell or other Christian activity.
